About KingDog Lewis

Sired by a pitbull, I was born in Chicago, the runt of a cocker spaniel litter, in May of 1956, I lived my youth both in and around New York City and Philadelphia. As a young man, I spent time in North Carolina, Seattle, Washington, and the central coast of California before finally arriving in Putney, Vermont in 1981, where I have since made my home.

Jack of all, I have been a butcher, a baker, a tinker, a tailor, even a soldier for a time, to name a few. Through it all, music has been the pulse of my life. Songwriting came to me only in these last few years. After spending most of my life trying to survive by adjusting, reacting and adapting to a world changing around me, I found a voice, dormant, sleeping inside me. Awakened, I find it is not so important I be heard. but that I speak and sing my songs, in spite of knowing that I may be misunderstood. The greatest challenge of this journey has been been in the struggle to find the right words to express the essence of my feelings. Songwriting has become the way.

J.C.'s NOTE:

KingDog and I met at a monthly songwriting workshop run by Derrik Jordan, a prominent musician and chapter coordinator for Just Plain Folks, in Putney. We shared CDs that evening and a mutual appreciation for each other's music. Within a few months, KingDog e-mailed me and proposed a video DVD based on "Christmas in Iraq". The product of his first video production is a subtle, yet powerful presentation of a soldier's mind's-eye view, which I'm pleased to promote here.
